COLD

My family was never conventional—I grew up in the context of Lithuania's struggle for independence, with parents who constantly questioned the system imposed on them. This instilled in me a desire to see life from a different perspective. Inspired by my father, the first Wim Hof Instructor in Lithuania, I dared to overcome my fear of the cold—and instantly fell in love with it. It became my daily companion and the river—my friend and therapist. Stepping into the river daily turned into a way to explore myself and the world around me unconventionally.

PUNKS OF VILNELĖ

Community is a crucial part of my Wim Hof Method practice. In 2019, when I started my daily swims in the Vilnelė River, a group of like-minded people soon formed. They maintain a daily WHM rhythm in Vilnius waters and have inspired many others to try this method.

VARIOUS FACTS

  • My children attended an outdoor kindergarten and school for many years. Watching how nature nurtures, strengthens, and inspires their creativity in every season made me want the same for myself.

  • My pediatrician grandmother founded a women's winter swimming club in Druskininkai during Lithuania's independence movement, where she and like-minded women would bathe in ice holes.

  • My mother's aunt, Dr. Filomena Taunytė, was treating illnesses with cold water therapy 30 years ago. Following her advice, my mother has been walking barefoot in the snow and taking cold water showers every morning for decades.

  • Nutrition is essential to me—I follow a plant-based diet and highly recommend it.

  • I am an IT specialist and love pragmatic explanations, which is why WHM feels like the perfect mix of spirituality and science-based techniques.

  • Breathing is an excellent pain-relief and relaxation tool. I realized this firsthand when I gave birth naturally using breathing techniques.

  • The Lithuanian word grūdinimasis is unique (found in only a few other languages) and refers to the tempering of glass and metal and the body's adaptation to cold.
